Last week I ventured all the way out west to a well known, fancy part of town, Chelsea. As an east end girl there had to be good reason, and there was, dinner with my pal Rose in a charming hidden gem of a restaurant, The Artisan.
As I made the short walk from Earls Court station I couldn’t help thinking how lush the area was and how nice it would be to live here. Leafy streets and tall Victorian town houses- ah man Stratford will have to do for now.
We got a super warm welcome from the manager as we were shown to a seat near the huge French doors- lots of light, perfect for pics.
I love it when someone can anticipate what you want before you ask for it. Drinks? G&T? Erm, yes and yes. Minutes later an ice cold gin and tonic made it’s way to my lips. Not just any gin, a specially sourced Sussex gin. They like to keep it all local here- food, drink, even the art on the walls is local talent.
We tucked into some crusty bread and oils while we picked out a zillion dishes from the extensive menu. Lots of sharey small plates seem to be the way to go here.
First up, an oh so creamy dish of artichoke dip. Still roasting hot it was bubbling underneath the grilled parmesan topping. This was surprisingly good and so indulgent. It deserves a better name than just ‘dip’.
The fresh chunky beetroot salad was also a hit. I just love goats cheese so this paired with tangy orange, pine nuts and smooth vinaigrette was just divine. This would be a great side dish with a main too.
On the managers recommendation we had some of the padron peppers. Not my fave plate, as they were essentially just grilled peppers and the cherry glaze sauce was a little odd tasting. Luckily I forgot all about them when these babies turned up…
Mini posh pork sliders, oh yeh. Lush marinated pulled pork with a horseradish puree, so so good. And filling.

Then mains, the deliciously beautiful mains. Rose went for the monkfish tail with sweet potato mash and a side of mussels for good measure. She cleared the plate so I expect this was pretty damn good.
My onglet steak was heavenly. The thin slices of medium rare meat had so much flavour, it was cooked perfectly- maybe a little too pink for some, but I loveeeed it. It was on a bed of cheesy, smooth parmesan mash and a pot of bearnaise to pour over. Mmmmmmm.
We obviously couldn’t leave without a pud, even though we were bursting at the seams. It was a toss up between the passion fruit meringue or the baileys tart- this sexy thaang won…
No words could describe how much I enjoyed this. Sharp lemon and fresh pillow’y meringue was just insane. Oh I did find words.
If The Artisan Bistro was on my door step (or even a little more central) I’d be back in a heartbeat. Sadly I’m a little too lazy to spend 45 mins on the district line home- but all y’all living west or visiting the Olympia I highly recommend swinging by. We were well looked after and the food was simply stunning. Fine dining without the pretentiousness- thumbs up.
